LEAD Academy Receives Donation from Montgomery Area Association of Realtors

Posted by: MAAR/MLS on Tuesday, June 25, 2019

MONTGOMERY - On Tuesday, officials from LEAD Academy were joined by officials from the Montgomery Area Association of Realtors to receive a donation of $200,000 and announce a strategic partnership between the two organizations.

"We are are so thankful to the Board and all the members at the Montgomery Area Association of Realtors for this very generous gift," said Charlotte Meadows, chair of the LEAD Academy Board. "MAAR is an organization that is dedicated to helping improve our community and we are excited to join with them in this goal."

Public charter schools do not receive any money from the state until after school starts. Because of this, LEAD Academy has been fundraising in order to pay for costs associated with starting a school. The donation from MAAR will help in this effort.

"We are so pleased to partner with LEAD Academy to help improve education in Montgomery," said Kim McElroy, President of the Montgomery Area Association of Realtors. "Our children are the future of this city and we owe them the very best that we can give. We are committed to helping improve public education so that every child has a chance for success."

LEAD Academy is Montgomery's first public charter school and is scheduled to open this August to 360 students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

"Since we started LEAD Academy, our goal has been to create a school that will be a benefit to our community - not only through improving educational outcomes for students, but also by giving our students the opportunity to partner with other community leaders and organizations to advance the city of Montgomery," said Meadows. "We hope this partnership is the first of many."
